technical knockout

Fight ends early

A technical knockout is a boxing victory awarded when the referee, doctor, or corner stops a fight because one boxer cannot safely continue—due to injury, excessive punishment, or inability to defend themselves.

Abbreviated TKO.

Unlike a knockout, the losing fighter hasn't been knocked unconscious.

The term extends to decisive defeats in other contexts: The debate was a technical knockout for the challenger.
