standing count
Dazed boxer's assessment
A standing count is a boxing procedure where the referee stops the action to count over a fighter who has been badly hurt but remains on their feet.
Unlike a knockdown count, the fighter hasn't hit the canvas—the referee intervenes to assess whether they can continue safely.
Also called a standing eight count, since referees typically count to eight: The referee gave him a standing count after that brutal combination.
