technical fouls
Behavioral basketball penalties
Technical fouls are rule violations in basketball that don't involve physical contact between players during active play.
They're called for unsportsmanlike conduct—arguing with referees, taunting opponents, hanging on the rim—or procedural infractions like calling timeout when none remain.
The opposing team shoots free throws, and technicals accumulate: He was ejected after his second technical foul.
Often shortened to technicals or just techs.
