free throws
Unopposed basket attempts
Free throws are uncontested shots in basketball, taken from a designated line after certain fouls.
A player gets one, two, or three attempts depending on the situation.
The term extends to any opportunity given without opposition: They're just handing you free throws here—take the shot.
