tapdance
Percussive shoe performance
Tapdance is a style of dance in which the performer wears shoes fitted with metal plates that click rhythmically against the floor.
The dancer creates percussive patterns with heel and toe strikes: She tapdanced her way through the audition.
Figuratively, to tapdance is to improvise evasively or perform verbal acrobatics to avoid a direct answer: He tapdanced around the question about his finances.
