tab stops
Text positioning points
Tab stops are preset positions where the cursor jumps when you press the tab key, used to align text in columns or create consistent indentation.
In word processors and text editors, you can set custom tab stops at specific measurements across the page: Set tab stops at half-inch intervals.
The concept originated with typewriters, where metal stops physically halted the carriage at predetermined points.
