synaesthetic

Perceiving across senses

Synaesthetic describes the blending of senses—seeing sounds, tasting colors, hearing shapes.

The term applies both to the neurological condition where sensory pathways cross involuntarily and to artistic techniques that evoke similar effects: synaesthetic imagery in poetry, a synaesthetic experience of music as shifting colors.
