chromesthesia

Tones trigger colors

Chromesthesia is a form of synesthesia in which sounds trigger the perception of colors.

Someone with chromesthesia might see specific hues when hearing music, voices, or other sounds—a trumpet blast appearing as orange, a violin as deep blue.

The experience is involuntary and consistent: the same sound reliably produces the same color.

Her chromesthesia meant every song had its own palette.
