swimming area
Where laps happen
A swimming area is a designated section of water—in a lake, river, ocean, or reservoir—where swimming is permitted and often supervised.
Such areas are typically marked with buoys or ropes, patrolled by lifeguards, and monitored for safety hazards: The beach has a roped-off swimming area for children.
Distinct from swimming pools, which are artificial enclosures.
