Ship's freight officer
A supercargo is a person employed by a ship's owner to oversee the cargo and its sale during a voyage.
The role was common in merchant shipping when vessels carried goods to distant ports for trade: The supercargo negotiated prices with local merchants.
The position has largely disappeared with modern shipping logistics.
