sunscald
Tree bark damage
Sunscald is damage to plant tissue caused by intense sunlight, typically appearing as bleached, cracked, or dead patches on bark, leaves, or fruit.
Trees are vulnerable when sudden exposure follows shade—after pruning or when winter sun heats bark that freezes again at night.
Tomatoes and peppers develop pale, papery spots on sun-facing sides: The tomatoes showed sunscald where leaves had been removed.
