sugarbeet

Sweet root vegetable

A sugarbeet is a variety of beet cultivated for its high sucrose content, used to produce sugar.

Unlike red table beets, sugarbeets are white and grown as an industrial crop.

About a third of the world's sugar comes from sugarbeets rather than sugarcane.

Also spelled as two words: sugar beet.
