sucking reflex
Newborn feeding response
The sucking reflex is an infant's automatic response to suck when something touches the roof of the mouth or lips.
Present from birth, it enables nursing and bottle-feeding.
The reflex is involuntary in newborns but gradually comes under conscious control as the infant develops.
The baby's sucking reflex was strong from the first feeding.
