subtending
Forming angle's base
Subtending is a geometric term for spanning or being opposite to.
An angle subtends an arc when its vertex lies at the center of a circle and its sides pass through the arc's endpoints.
Conversely, an arc subtends an angle.
The term extends to any structure that underlies or stretches beneath another: a bract subtending the flower.
