subserosal

Under outer membrane

Subserosal describes something situated or occurring beneath a serous membrane—the thin tissue lining body cavities and covering organs.

The term appears most often in medical contexts describing the location of growths or lesions: subserosal fibroids, a subserosal cyst.

The serosa is the outermost layer; subserosal means just under it.
