subbasin
Smaller drainage division
A subbasin is a subdivision of a larger drainage basin or watershed—an area where water collects and flows into a particular stream or river that feeds into a larger water system.
Hydrologists and environmental planners use the term when analyzing water resources at finer scales: The study examined pollution levels in each subbasin of the Colorado River watershed.
