stroopwafels

Caramel-filled waffle cookies

Stroopwafels are Dutch cookies made of two thin waffle layers pressed together with caramel syrup in between.

The name combines *stroop* (syrup) and *wafel* (waffle).

Traditionally served atop a hot drink so the steam softens the caramel: She balanced the stroopwafel on her coffee cup to warm it.

Singular: stroopwafel.
