stoving

Forcing a surface inward

Stoving is the process of heating something in a stove or oven, particularly in industrial contexts where materials are baked to harden, cure, or dry them.

Stoving enamel is paint that requires heat treatment to achieve its final finish: The car panels went through stoving after coating.

In Scottish dialect, stoving also describes cooking food slowly in a covered pot.
