stone stacking
Balanced rock towers
Stone stacking is the practice of balancing rocks on top of one another, creating towers or sculptures without adhesive.
It ranges from casual beachside pastimes to meditative art forms requiring precise balance.
Trail markers called cairns are a traditional form.
The practice has grown controversial in natural areas, where excessive stacking disturbs habitats and violates leave-no-trace principles: Please don't stack stones in the national park.
