Tracking stored goods
Stockkeeping is the work of managing inventory—tracking what goods are on hand, what's been sold, and what needs reordering.
The term appears most often in retail and warehouse contexts, where accurate stockkeeping prevents both shortages and excess.
A stockkeeping unit, or SKU, is a unique identifier assigned to each product for tracking purposes.
