stillroom

Estate preservation room

A stillroom is a room in a large house where distilling, preserving, and other household preparations took place.

Historically, it was where the lady of the house or housekeeper made medicines, cordials, preserves, and cosmetics: The housekeeper kept her recipe books in the stillroom.

The name comes from the stills once used for distilling herbs and flowers into waters and essences.
