step-ins

Easy-on footwear

Step-ins are women's undergarments or shoes designed to be stepped into rather than pulled on or fastened.

The term dates to the early twentieth century, when it described loose-fitting underpants with an elastic waist—a simpler alternative to more structured foundation garments.

Step-in shoes similarly require no lacing or buckling: She slipped on her step-ins and headed downstairs.
