stenotype machine
Shorthand transcription device
A stenotype machine is a specialized keyboard used by court reporters and captioners to transcribe speech at high speed.
Unlike a standard keyboard, it has relatively few keys pressed in combinations—chords—that represent syllables, words, or phrases.
A skilled operator can capture speech verbatim in real time, producing transcripts for legal proceedings, live television, or accessibility services.
