Unequal arm scale
A steelyard is a type of balance scale with unequal arms—a short arm holds the object being weighed while a counterweight slides along the longer graduated arm until equilibrium is reached.
The position of the counterweight indicates the weight.
Ancient and portable, steelyards were common for weighing goods at markets before modern scales.
