steam cars
Boiler-powered automobiles
Steam cars are automobiles powered by steam engines rather than internal combustion.
Popular in the early 1900s before gasoline engines dominated, they used water heated by a boiler to generate steam that drove the wheels.
The Stanley Steamer was the most famous example.
Steam cars are now mostly historical curiosities, though hobbyists still restore and operate them.
