starchitects
Famous building creators
Starchitects are celebrity architects whose fame extends beyond the profession into mainstream culture.
The term blends "star" and "architect" to describe designers like Frank Gehry or Zaha Hadid, whose distinctive styles become recognizable brands.
Starchitects are often hired for prestige projects where the architect's name itself adds cultural cachet.
The city commissioned a starchitect to design their new museum.
The term can carry a dismissive edge, implying style over substance or ego-driven design.
