star parties
Communal night observing
Star parties are gatherings where amateur astronomers meet at night to observe celestial objects together, typically in locations away from city light pollution.
Participants bring telescopes and share views of planets, galaxies, and meteor showers: The astronomy club hosts monthly star parties at the state park.
Large star parties can draw hundreds of enthusiasts to dark-sky sites.
