light pollution
Stars drowned out
Light pollution is the excessive or misdirected artificial light that brightens the night sky and obscures views of stars and other celestial objects.
It results primarily from outdoor lighting in urban and suburban areas—streetlights, building facades, parking lots, and illuminated signs.
Beyond affecting stargazing and astronomy, light pollution disrupts ecosystems by interfering with the natural behaviors of nocturnal animals and migratory birds.
The observatory relocated because light pollution from the growing city made observations impossible.
