stadium wave
Sequential fan standing
A stadium wave is a visual effect created when successive sections of a crowd stand, raise their arms, then sit again, producing a ripple that travels around an arena.
Fans perform it spontaneously at sporting events, usually during lulls in action: The stadium wave went around three times before dying out.
Also called simply the wave.
