spread betting
Point differential gambling
Spread betting is a form of wagering where the payout depends on how accurate your prediction is, not simply whether you're right or wrong.
In sports, the bookmaker sets a spread—a predicted margin of victory—and you bet on whether the actual result exceeds or falls short of it.
In financial markets, spread betting lets you speculate on price movements without owning the underlying asset: He lost thousands spread betting on oil prices.
Gains and losses scale with how far the outcome moves from the spread.
