split rail fence
Zigzag wooden boundary
A split rail fence is a rustic wooden fence made from logs that have been split lengthwise into rails, stacked horizontally between upright posts.
Traditional to rural America, especially for marking property boundaries and containing livestock.
The zigzag variant, requiring no posts, is called a snake fence or worm fence: The old split rail fence had been there since his grandfather's time.
