spaghettification

Gravitational noodle-making process

Spaghettification is the theoretical stretching of objects into long, thin shapes when falling into a black hole.

The intense gravitational gradient pulls harder on the side closer to the black hole than the far side, elongating anything caught in it like pasta being extruded.

The term comes from astrophysics but appears in popular science writing: If you fell into a stellar black hole, spaghettification would kill you before you crossed the event horizon.
