soapbox derby
Homemade cart competition
A soapbox derby is a racing competition for small, unpowered vehicles—traditionally homemade from wooden crates and roller-skate wheels—that coast downhill by gravity alone.
The races are typically for children and emphasize building skill over speed.
The name comes from the wooden soap crates once used as car bodies: Every summer the neighborhood kids held a soapbox derby on Miller Hill.
