slick tire
Smooth racing wheel
A slick tire is a tire with a smooth tread surface and no grooves or patterns.
Racing vehicles use slicks because the maximum rubber contact with dry pavement provides superior grip.
The tradeoff is dangerous loss of traction in wet conditions—water can't channel away from the contact patch.
The team switched to slicks after the track dried.
