slap leather
Reach for holster
Slap leather is Old West slang for drawing a gun from a holster, the leather being the holster itself.
The phrase evokes frontier gunfights and duels: He told the outlaw to slap leather or get out of town.
Now used nostalgically or in Western fiction, sometimes extended to mean preparing for any confrontation.
