skin flaps
Transplanted skin sections
Skin flaps are sections of skin surgically moved from one area of the body to another while maintaining a blood supply connection.
Unlike skin grafts, which are fully detached and transplanted, flaps remain partially attached during transfer to ensure the tissue survives.
Surgeons use them to repair wounds, reconstruct features after trauma or cancer removal, or cover areas where simple grafting won't work: The surgeon used a skin flap from her forearm to rebuild her nose.
