sign painter
Hand-lettering craftsperson
A sign painter is a person who paints lettering and designs on signs, storefronts, and vehicles by hand.
The craft requires skill in typography, color, and brushwork.
Though largely displaced by vinyl graphics and digital printing, sign painting persists as an artisanal trade: The old sign painter still does gold leaf lettering for pubs.
