shoutbox

Embedded message widget

A shoutbox is a small chat widget embedded on a website, allowing visitors to post short public messages in real time.

Popular on forums and fan sites in the early 2000s, shoutboxes let users leave quick comments without navigating away from the main page: The shoutbox was blowing up during the game.
