shoulder tackle

Ramming with torso

A shoulder tackle is a forceful move where you drive your shoulder into someone to knock them down or push them aside.

In American football and rugby, it's a fundamental defensive technique—lowering your body and leading with the shoulder to bring down a ball carrier.

The term also describes rougher, less regulated contact: He shoulder tackled the intruder to the ground.
