shorthand notes
Rapid written symbols
Shorthand notes are written records made using an abbreviated system of symbols, characters, or condensed words that allow for rapid transcription of speech or ideas.
Secretaries and court reporters traditionally used formal shorthand systems like Gregg or Pitman to capture dictation verbatim.
More loosely, the term describes any personal system of abbreviations and truncated words someone uses to jot things down quickly: I couldn't read my own shorthand notes from the meeting.
