shinning

Scaling using legs

Shinning is climbing by gripping with the arms and legs, typically up a rope, pole, or tree: He shinned up the drainpipe to reach the window.

The word comes from using the shins to grip while ascending.

More common in British English; Americans tend to say shimmying.
