sheet ice
Smooth frozen layer
Sheet ice is a continuous, unbroken layer of ice covering a surface—typically a body of water, road, or pavement.
Unlike chunky or fragmented ice, sheet ice forms as a smooth, often thin expanse: The lake was covered in sheet ice by morning.
On roads, sheet ice creates particularly hazardous driving conditions because it's difficult to see.
