shanghaied

Drugged and crewed

Shanghaied means kidnapped or coerced into service, originally referring to the practice of drugging or tricking men into serving as sailors on ships.

The term comes from the Chinese port city, a common destination for vessels needing crew.

Now used more broadly for being forced or tricked into any unwanted situation: I got shanghaied into helping them move.
