A severe weather alert is an official warning issued by meteorological authorities when dangerous conditions are imminent or occurring—thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, or extreme heat.
Alerts range in urgency from watches (conditions favorable) to warnings (threat is immediate): A severe weather alert has been issued for the entire county.
