semi-automatic transmission
Self-shifting stick shift
A semi-automatic transmission combines elements of manual and automatic systems—the driver shifts gears manually, but the clutch engages automatically.
This eliminates the clutch pedal while preserving driver control over gear selection.
Found in some sports cars and commercial vehicles: The truck has a semi-automatic transmission for easier city driving.
Also called automated manual transmission.
