self-standing
Needs no support
Self-standing describes something that supports itself without external aid or attachment.
A self-standing structure needs no wall or frame to hold it up: a self-standing wardrobe, self-standing shelves.
The term extends to things that function independently: a self-standing argument requires no outside support to be convincing.
