scopolamine

Anti-nausea tropane alkaloid

Scopolamine is a drug derived from nightshade plants, used medically to prevent motion sickness and nausea, often delivered through a patch worn behind the ear.

It also treats muscle spasms and is given before surgery to reduce secretions.

In higher doses, scopolamine causes disorientation and memory loss, which has led to its criminal use as a date-rape drug or to incapacitate robbery victims: The traveler was drugged with scopolamine and woke up with no memory and no wallet.
