satin weave

Lustrous fabric technique

Satin weave is a method of weaving fabric in which warp threads pass over multiple weft threads before going under one, creating a smooth, lustrous surface on one side.

This floating pattern minimizes the visible interlacing points, giving satin its characteristic sheen.

The technique produces fabrics that drape well but are less durable than plain or twill weaves because the long floats are more susceptible to snagging.
