table runner
Long tablecloth strip
A table runner is a long, narrow strip of decorative fabric laid down the center of a table, typically over a tablecloth or directly on the table surface.
Unlike a tablecloth, it leaves most of the table exposed while adding color or texture: She chose a linen table runner for the dinner party.
Table runners are common at formal meals and holiday settings.
