salt-water

Like the sea

Salt-water describes things of, from, or living in the ocean or sea, as opposed to fresh water: salt-water fish, salt-water taffy.

The hyphenated form typically appears as an adjective before a noun.

Without the hyphen, salt water is simply water with dissolved salt—seawater, or water you gargle for a sore throat.
